Every delay, tested against the record.
Forty-eight animated graphs walk through the nine Method Implementation Protocols of AACE Recommended Practice 29R-03, plus the eleven delay concepts and seven named methods every analyst must know: what each method reads, how it measures delay, and where it holds up or breaks down.
One recommended practice. Nine ways to read a delay.
AACE 29R-03 sorts forensic schedule analysis by two questions. Does the analyst observe what the record shows, or model what would have happened? And is the view static, or dynamic across schedule updates? The answers lead to nine protocols.
| MIP | Family | Method | What it does |
|---|---|---|---|
| 3.1 | Observational · Static | Gross | Compares the as-planned schedule to the as-built for the whole project in one pass. Simple and transparent, but it cannot see critical path shifts. |
| 3.2 | Observational · Static | Periodic | Splits the project into periods and compares planned to as-built within each, so a delay is tied to the period in which it occurred. |
| 3.3 | Observational · Dynamic | Contemporaneous As-Is | Uses the schedule updates exactly as they were issued and reads the critical path window by window. |
| 3.4 | Observational · Dynamic | Contemporaneous Split | As 3.3, with windows split at key events to isolate which delay moved the completion date. |
| 3.5 | Observational · Dynamic | Modified or Recreated | Repairs or rebuilds updates when the contemporaneous ones are missing, unreliable or inconsistent with the as-built record. |
| 3.6 | Modeled · Additive | Single Base | Inserts delay fragnets into one baseline schedule and measures the change in completion. |
| 3.7 | Modeled · Additive | Multiple Base | Inserts fragnets into several updates, so each delay is measured against the schedule as it stood at that time. |
| 3.8 | Modeled · Subtractive | Single Simulation | Removes the delays from the as-built schedule in one simulation to show when the project would have finished without them. |
| 3.9 | Modeled · Subtractive | Multiple Base | Repeats the subtractive simulation on multiple bases or periods and compares the results. |
